C. Patrick McLarney began practicing in 1968 at Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. in Kansas City. He served as a litigator and Chair of the Tort Section. He supervised litigation and tried cases for over 41 years. He also served as Managing Partner of the firm for 17 years from 1985 to 2002. SHB grew from 65 lawyers in one office to more than 500 lawyers in nine offices with two offices overseas during his time. Pat spear-headed the funding for Legal Services of Western Missouri. Fundraising under his supervision grew from almost nothing to a current level of $600,000 per year. Pat started an endowment for Legal Aid of Western Missouri. Pat serves on the Civic Council and Downtown Council of Kansas City. Pat serves on the Board and as Development Director for UMKC, Benedictine College and the Kansas City Art Institute. He is Chair-Elect of the UMKC Board of Trustees. He recently received the top award in Kansas City for lawyers, the Whittaker Award given out by the Kansas City Lawyers Association to lawyers who has contributed the most to the Kansas City legal community. He has served as President of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Kansas City Lawyers Association, and the young lawyers sections of both. He has served on the board of the Missouri Bar Association and the Board of the International Association of Trial Lawyers. He was elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. Pat was named the Citizen of the Year by the Mayor of Kansas City in 2002. In addition, Pat has served as Chairman of the Missouri Coalition of Bar Associations to Preserve the Missouri Court plan; Chair the Kansas City, Missouri Light Rail Campaign Committee in 2008; named one of the “Top Eight Lawyers” in Missouri by Lawyers Weekly, 2006; the Chief Judge’s Judicial Conference of Missouri Award, 2006; Presidential Award for Outstanding Service, Missouri Bar Association, 2006; named to Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers “Top 50” Kansas City lawyers, 2006; Daily Record Legal leader of the Year, 2005 and 2006; named to Kansas City Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar,” 2004-2007; Missouri Bar Association Award for Outstanding Lawyer, 2004; Legacy Award, Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, 2003; Presidential Award for Outstanding Service, Missouri Bar Association, 2002; Outstanding Alumni, University of Missouri Law School, 2002; Michael Coburn Community Service Award, Legal Aid of Western Missouri, 2001; Honorary Member of the Order of Barristers, University of Missouri Law School, 1998; Ross Roberts Inn of Court Professional Excellence Award, 1996 and Best Lawyers in America, 1994-2006.
